Kiddie Rooms – Nursery Room Designs and Inspirations

Nursery room designs conjure up visions of sugarplums, teddy bears, childhood fun and mother’s love. Babies are life’s greatest gifts, and as we prepare for their arrival, we want everything to be perfect for our bundle of joy. What’s not to love about them? They’re angels, adorable, and their scent is heavenly – well sometimes. When a family is redecorating their home and are expecting a new baby, my job is to deliver a beautiful nursery room appropriate for the baby’s gender and the parents’ needs.

A girl’s nursery room:

A common practice in decorating a girl’s room is using the pink or purple. It is still widely evident and widely used – pink or purple painted walls, window treatments, sheets, beddings and decor accessories. These hues are best paired with soft creams to neutralize and balance the room. You can go with white-lacquered drawers, cabinets, vanity or dresser, and a white custom-built crib.

But other colors can be just as feminine and twice as creative! Yellows and greens, corals and blues, black and white can all be a great basis for a tiny little girl’s room.

For a baby and child-friendly nursery room design, opt for soft area carpet. It is soft, sends out a warm feeling while adding texture to the overall layout.

A boy’s nursery room:

When you ask someone, the color that most people would associate with a baby boy is blue. Since you’re designing for child’s room, it should still stay soft, easy on the eyes yet with a little hint of masculinity. In this sense, I prefer to use light natural wood for the furnishings and have the wall and window treatments in soft blue. Sheets, side chair, and carpet would be in creams and whites reminiscent of a child’s pureness and innocence of life.

Or try a bolder approach with forest green and gold, various shades of brown or gray, navy and white and the list goes on. The trick is to carry the color theme out throughout the room and accessories.

Nursery rooms for any gender:

In today’s world, color is not a statement of gender. Men can use feminine colors to express their mood or style; same goes with interior design. In designing a room for an unknown gender, I prefer to use neutral hues such as blacks, whites, and grays. I make sure to introduce a burst of color of tangerines, aquas or yellows to give life to the room.

In nursery room designs, I strongly recommend having large windows installed with minimal treatments to allow natural light to come in. Babies need their daily dose of Vitamin D. A great source would be the morning sunlight. Being able to identify where the sun rises is also crucial in achieving this setting.
