Top 4 Factors to Consider When Hiring an Interior Designer
What should you consider before hiring an interior designer? We all want a beautiful home but to achieve a balance of family-friendly furnishing with the right blend of home glamour, your best bet is to hire an interior designer. However, hiring the right one can be a challenge. But this shouldn’t be a demotivator. Hiring a designer to decorate your home requires some planning and reflection as well as resources. Before selecting an interior designer, make sure you have decided what you want for your home.
As an interior designer who has dealt with many clients, I would personally like to share with you some things you need to consider before hiring a professional to help decorate your home. Let’s start with my list.
Factors to Consider When Hiring an Interior Designer
#1 Strong communication is key when choosing an interior designer.
Although the thought of shopping and styling a home sounds fun, decorating a home is a serious undertaking. The homeowner and interior designer must establish a good rapport starting with the initial consultation. I strongly recommend that both parties stay in constant communication before, during and even after the project timeline. Communication is especially important if there are unpleasant conversations, so choose a designer who can accept criticism and does not avoid conflict. It helps reduce misunderstandings and prevent costly mistakes.
#2 Trust the interior designer to do their job.
In the design process, there will always be a time where a client may be skeptical about the designer’s decisions. Redesigning or remodelling a home is stressful so this situation is inevitable. A designer needs to hear your concerns, but once you are confident that has occurred, you need to trust us to do our job and enjoy the process. We often approach things differently but rest assured we’re doing something extra special for you home. Just wait for it!
#3 Disclose a realistic budget and determine the scope of the interior design project.
It is best for your decorator if you say what needs are and reveal a realistic budget. This way, we can calculate and assess how we can best match your preferences and taste to your budget. The world if full of bright shiny objects and without a budget anyone, even designers, can go overboard. It is also best to state a budget for the whole project and let the designer work with you on how to allocate the dollars.
#4 Stay patient when working with an interior designer.
A masterpiece or beautiful designs are impossible to achieve overnight. Sometimes, a design project takes several weeks or even months depending on the proposed timeline. I strongly advise my clients to be patient as a great design takes time. Sit tight and again, enjoy the ride and excitement.
